Purpose: To connect kids to the foods they eat, or the flowers and plants they see in the store.
Activity: 1) Book reading -example: "Where does food come from?"2) Children decorate mini flower pots with acrylic paint. 3) Take trip to garden during other camp activities or visit restaurant at the club and have them show how they make tomato sauce out of tomatoes. 4) Place potting soil in painted pot, and drop in seed for tomato plant. Children will bring home potted plant with instructions for upkeep.
Materials: 1) Small pots 2) Potting soil 3) Acrylic Paint 4) Paint brushes 5) Smocks 6) Garden or related story book 7) Tomatoes to taste from kitchen.
